12 Days Uganda & Rwanda Tour
This trip combines Rwanda and Uganda. You can choose this safari if it matches your travel dates. The tour includes a wildlife tour in Queen Elizabeth national park, Chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura Gorge in Queen Elizabeth, and a double Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi and Mgahinga National parks.
Day 1: Arrive – at Kigali international Airport.
Arrive at Kigali International Airport you will be welcomed by our guide/ Guest relations Set off to Queen elizabeth national park road at 10am. On the way you will be enjoying the beautiful scenic view of Rwanda and Uganda; Have lunch on your way to Queen Elizabeth National Park, keeping an eye out for the wildlife. Day 2: Queen Elizabeth National Park (QENP)
Go for an early morning game drive to seek out wildlife, rest during the heat of the day and again go for an evening game drive. The Kasenyi plains support large concentrations of wildlife especially lion. The area around the seven crater lakes in the northern hills are very scenic but wildlife viewing is erratic. The Mweya peninsula is usually good to see the large mammals, bushbuck, waterbuck, and elephant, as well as the unusual giant forest hog. Leopard may also be seen in this area. Day 3: QUEEN NP – Chimpanzee Tracking.
An excursion to Kyambura gorge nearby to track the fast moving and elusive Chimpanzees one of man’s closest relations. The chimp population is quite mobile and viewing is unpredictable. The walk in this “lost world” is nevertheless enchanting. Alternatively go for a nature walk in Maramagambo Forest. This forest harbors some unusual species – potto, giant forest hog, pygmy antelope and giant elephant shrew. You can also visit the bat caves and the blue lake. In the afternoon a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel which is especially rewarding for viewing a variety of animals, especially hippo, buffalo, elephant and a vast array of birds. Day 4: Ishasha National Park
Explore the Ishasha Sector, the known home to the tree climbing lions. The Ishasha sector of QUEEN NP is offers a contrasting environment if compared to that of the Mweya and Kasenyi areas of the Queen Elizabeth National Park. Enjoy game viewing in the vast low-lying savannah plains lying south of the equator. Overnight and Meal plan at Ishasha Wilderness Camp (FB)
Day 5: Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
In morning drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Either drive via Ishasha, home of the tree climbing lion, roads permitting, or take the alternative route through cultivated expanses. Time permitting, go for a guided nature walk. Overnight and meal plan at Bwindi Lodge (FB)
Day 6: Bwindi – Gorilla Tracking
Either go gorilla tracking (subject to permit availability at time of booking), walking up steep densely forested. In this thick and humid forest you almost have to cut your way through the undergrowth but finally coming across the gorillas camouflaged in the vegetation is an inspiring moment. Tracking in Bwindi requires stamina and can often take most of the day. Alternatively go for a leisurely walk on one of the different trails that meanders through the Impenetrable Forest. Day 7: Bwindi – Gorilla Tracking
You will either back to gorilla tracking (subject to permit availability at time of booking) or go for a guided nature walk for bird watching of a different bird species, butterflies and monkeys. Alternatively, look for monkeys and birds near the river below the Lodge. Overnight and meal plan at Bwindi Lodge (FB).
Day 8: Drive to Mgahinga
Transfer to Mgahinga. Make brief stops at places of interest including Kanaba Gap to view the dramatic Virunga volcanoes and beautiful terraced hills. You can either continue directly to Mgahinga, or make a detour to Lake Mutanda. Here you can take a gentle stroll on the lake shores whilst watching local life, or weather permitting, take a canoe to Toyo Island, before continuing to Mount Gahinga. Afternoon at leisure. Day 9 Mgahinga – Gorilla Tracking
After having your breakfast go out for either gorilla tracking, this time in Mgahinga on the northern side of the Virunga mountains or climb the Muhavura or Gahinga volcano, or go for a nature walk. Mount Gahinga Lodge at 2,300m nestles in the shadow of the dramatic Virunga volcanoes. Overnight at Mount Gahinga Lodge (FB).
Day 10: Travel to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast in the morning you will embark on your safari car the boarder boarder to Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park via the Cyanika border. Have a stopover at the Twin Lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo. Continue to Volcanoes National Park. In the afternoon, go for the Ibywachu cultural experience at the Gorilla’s Guardian Village. Overnight and meal plan at 5Volcano boutique hotel/ Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge / Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.
Day 11: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Wake up early in the morning have your breakfast and then transfer to Volcanoes National Park Headquarter, another thrilling destination for gorilla tracking in the Virunga Mountains ranges. The gorilla trek is a bit fair if compared with Bwindi given that the terrain is better. After the gorilla trek, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 12: Travel to Kigali
After a relaxed breakfast transfer to Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. Take a Kigali City Tour inclusive of Genocide Memorial Site, Local Markets, Craft Centers. Drop off at Kigali International Airport to catch up with your flight back home.
