7 Days Rwanda Primates Tour
This 7 Days Rwanda Primates Safari takes you through Rwanda’s amazing attractions from Kigali to volcanoes national park the home of mountain gorillas, Chimpanzees Tracking, Golden Monkey Tracking, Mountain Gorilla Trekking and Cultural Tour, Nature walk. Below is the proposed itinerary for this safari;
Day1: Arrival – Drive to Ruhengeri
Pick up from either Kanombe airport or your hotel in Kigali and with lunch en route, drive to Ruhengeri in the northern Rwanda’s Musanze district. This drive will take you through the undulating hills of Rwanda, visit the memorial genocide site at Gisozi and as well go to the two twin lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo. Reach in the evening and check in at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge [luxury], Lap-lame Hotel [mid-range] or Kinigi Guest House [budget] for dinner and overnight. Meal plan.
Day 2: Gorilla tracking day
Rise up very early in the morning and have breakfast and thereafter proceed to volcanoes national park in Musanze district. Head straight to the park offices for briefing about the gorillas and allocation of Gorilla groups and guides. Thereafter get into the tropical rain forest and search for the mountain gorillas starting from where they were the previous day until you find them. You will find them doing their daily chores of feeding their young ones, climbing trees and others just relaxing. Take your best photographs having switched off your flash. This whole exercise takes a maximum of 1 hour and then return to the park offices for your gorilla tracking certificate. Return to the hotel for lunch and some relaxation. Afternoon, take a tour to the lake and see the exceptional caves around the lake and take remembrances photos with lots of fun poses near the caves then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Meals here are on F/B basis.
Day 3: Dian Fossey and Lake Kivu Visit
After breakfast, you will go to tour the tombs of the great lover of Gorillas (Dian Fossey) an American anthropologist spent years researching and conserving the gorillas before she was killed and is buried there next to Digit, a silverback gorilla. You may encounter primates like vervet monkeys, golden monkeys, gorillas on the way to the research Centre. Return to the hotel for lunch and relaxation. In the evening take a boat and cruise on the Lake Kivu visiting the various fishing villages. Retire in the evening at your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest
Have breakfast and after drive to Nyungwe forest where you will experience the chimpanzee trekking and the amazing canopy walk to spot various primates. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge/Nyungwe Hill Top Lodge/Gisakura Guest House. Meal plan: F/B
Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking and afternoon Colobus monkeys or Canopy walk
Wake up very early in the morning and have breakfast and then after go for chimpanzee briefing and thereafter, enter Nyungwe forest in the company of ranger guides in search for colonies of Chimpanzees and many monkey species like Golden monkeys, Blue Monkeys, red tailed monkeys and grey checked Mangabeys, Colobus monkeys, plus beautiful forest birds among others. Back to your lodge for lunch, relaxation as preparing for any one of the above mentioned activities of your choice, in the afternoon. Retire for dinner and overnight at your lodge. Meal plan is F/B
Day 6: Transfer to Kigali
Wake up very early in the morning and have your breakfast. Then afterwards drive to Kigali and embark on the city tour starting from Gisozi memorial genocide site and witness where over 5000 were killed during the 1994 genocide visit the first house, the national museum, do some shopping in most of the city markets and interact with the locals. Retire in the evening and check in at Mille Collines. Meal plan is F/B.
Day 7: Departure day
Wake up in the morning though not so early and relax a little bit. Then depending on your flight time drive to the airport and take your flight back home and kiss bye to the country of seven hills.
