Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival – Kigali City Tour

On the first day of your safari, you will be greeted by an Albertine Tours company guide, who will then take you to the booked accommodation. After checking in, you will have some time to rest and pack your bags carefully. Next, you will head to the city and visit some of the most iconic sites, like the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where thousands of Rwandans are buried, giving you the opportunity to learn the true story of what actually caused the war at the time. If time permits, we will also visit the Kimironko market to browse the local spices and foods.

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park

You will be picked up by our company/guide who will transfer you to Akagera National Park. The Journey takes approximately 2 hours to arrive at the destination. On arrival at the park you check in at the lodge, have lunch, and an afternoon game drive. The first day is always as interesting with all the excitement. Expect to meet zebras, antelopes of different species, leopards to mention a few. You will return to the lodge for dinner and staying overnight at

Day 3: Morning Game Drive – Afternoon Boat Cruise

Morning breakfast after you head out in search of game. The morning time is mostly busy as most of the wildlife species do come to graze and predators to hunt. Through the well-distributed game tracks and open roof safari car you will be able to see impala, leopards, lions, rhinos, giraffes, elephants, you will not miss the many birds of the park. Return to the lodge for a hot lunch and an afternoon boat cruise along Lake Ihema. Expect to see most of the water animals like hippos, Nile crocodiles along the marshy areas. Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After your early morning breakfast, you will go on a morning game drive as you exit the park on your way to Volcanoes National Park in the northern part of the country for a gorilla experience. The park is approximately 4 hours from Kigali. It is a scenic drive as you pass by the rolling beautiful hills and valleys, and tea plantations, arriving in time for lunch and an evening relaxation

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking Experience

You will be taken to the park centre for a morning briefing from the park rangers after eating an early breakfast. As our guide assists you in registering for the gorilla trekking adventure, they will advise you on appropriate behaviour while among the monkeys as well as the rules and regulations. You will be permitted entry into the woodland in groups of eight. With its enormous trees and vines that climb trees, it’s a truly remarkable location. Depending on how far the gorilla families have gone, the walk may take two hours or possibly all day. Once there, you can spend an hour with the primates.

Day 6: Visit the Twin Lakes Burera and Ruhondo

After breakfast, you’ll have a tour of the stunning Burera and Ruhondo twin lakes. These well-known lakes in Rwanda are located near the base of the stunningly picturesque Volcanoes National Park. This is an excellent location to view the expansive, amazing surroundings. After lunch, you’ll head back to the guesthouse and make your way to Lake Kivu. You may be able to see the stunning island littered mountain and the Virunga volcanic region, depending on when you arrive.

Day 7: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

With the mountains as a backdrop, Nyungwe Forest National Park is a fantastic place to visit and an important part of the environment. You will have time to visit the Nyanza Kings Palace to see the Rwandan king’s former royal domain. You will visit the museum showcasing historical artefacts belonging to the Rwandan people en route. The six-hour drive to the national park will arrive in time for dinner, and you will spend the night at the reserved lodge. Take leisurely evening strolls around the resort.

Day 8: Chimpanzee Tracking – Canopy Walk

After a hearty breakfast in the early morning, head to the Uwika Visitor Centre, the park headquarters, for a ranger briefing. You will walk the park in groups, looking for primates along the way. The exercise takes two to three hours, and spending an hour with the chimpanzees is permitted. Look out through the trees as you stroll to spot other park primates, such as blue and red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, and others. After lunch, you’ll head back to the lodge for a stroll under the canopy across the park’s lengthy suspended bridge. It’s a lovely way to see the park above ground.
