Itinerary

On your arrival at the Airport, you will be welcomed by the company representative. After the interaction, you will transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park. The drive has some stopovers like at Gikongoro for a tour of the Genocide Memorial of Murambi. Have lunch in Butare town which is the 2nd city to Kigali in Rwanda and also considered the cultural capital. The city hosts the biggest university in Rwanda and the National Museum with very rewarding handicraft shops where typical products made by Rwandan artisans are sold. After this, you will proceed with your journey and visit the Royal Palace in Nyanza. The site displays original items and pieces of history of the Old Mwami who was the King. Later after lunch, you will continue with your Journey to Nyungwe National Park for dinner and overnight stay at Nyungwe Forest Lodge (Luxury) or Gisakura Guest House (Budget)

You will have breakfast early in the morning and then go for chimpanzee trekking. This can take anything from a few hours to a full day depending on where the chimpanzees are located on a particular day. It should be mentioned that the chimps are unpredictable and can move long distances in one day. There are several other primates in Nyungwe such as the Rwenzori colobus, L’Hoest’s monkey, Silver monkey, Owl faced monkey and the Grey-cheeked Mangabey. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge/Peace Guest House/Gisakura Guest House

After breakfast, you will go for the morning canopy walk where you will be able to see different bird species like paradise flycatcher, the red throated alethe, drab Chubb’s Cisticola, green pigeon, the great blue Turaco, forest hornbills, Ross’s Turaco, red – breasted sparrow hawk and white – headed wood hoopoe. Return to the lodge for lunch and then in the afternoon, go for the forest/nature walk to encounter with more bird species and other primate species like chimpanzee and colobus monkeys, L’hoests monkey, Silver monkey, golden monkey; Owl faced monkey, red tailed monkey, and Dent’s Mona monkey, crowned monkey, Vervet monkey, and Olive baboon and so on. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge/Peace Guest House/Gisakura Guest House

You will have a drive to Volcanoes National Park to participate in a quest tracking of one of the Primates of the Virungas, the Golden Monkey, now listed as endangered because of their small numbers in the whole world. You will have a chance to view other primate species like the other Monkeys, bird species and so on. Return back to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. Dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/ Le Bambou Lodge/Kinigi Guest House

You will have breakfast early in the morning and then head t the park headquarters to be briefed and assigned a gorilla group. The breathtaking trek, in which you follow in the footsteps of the rare and critically endangered mountain gorilla and bamboo leftovers, you will be able to locate the gorillas. The trekking starts in the foothills of the Virungas with eye-catching views in all directions. Upon entering the national park, the paths are littered with fresh spoor of the elusive buffalo and elephant, and trekkers will be immersed in the mysterious intimacy of the rainforest, alive with lively birds and butterflies. Weaving through the forest the experienced guides will soon bring you up close to one of the families of gorillas. You will be allowed to spend only 1 hour of interacting with the great apes, you will get to know about their daily life and feeding pattern. After the trek, return to the lodge for relaxation OR a community walk. Dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/ Le Bambou Lodge/Kinigi Guest House

After breakfast, you will drive back to Kigali with en route stopovers at Gikongoro for a tour of the Genocide Memorial of Murambi. Proceed to Kigali for dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Chezlando/Step Town Motel (budget), Kigali Serena or Hotel Des Mill Collins for Luxury or Golf Hills Residence for Mid-range

After breakfast, you will have a drive to Akagera National Park which is located along the Rwanda and Tanzanian border. After lunch at the Lodge, you will go the afternoon boat trip on Lake Ihema to see a large number of hippos, the huge Nile crocodile and so many bird species. Retire in the evening to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Akagera Game Lodge

After breakfast, you will go for the morning game drive to search for the large herds of game animals which the park is famous for and these include: Burchell’s Zebra, lions, elephants, topi, giraffes, impalas and over 425 species of birds including the rare shoe billed stock, African jacana, sacred ibis goliath heron. Return back to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, drive back to Kigali airport to catch your flight back home.
