13 Day Rwanda Uganda Wildlife Tour

DAY 1: ARRIVAL AND TRANSFER TO KAMPALA FOR OVERNIGHT

Our Rwanda-Uganda Wildlife Tour starts when step into Uganda, The Pearl of Africa where you will be met and welcomed by our tour expert guide from Albertine Tours. You will be briefed about the next 13 days will be spent in the great countries and expectations of this tour as you get transferred to Kampala, the City Centre to be toured around before retiring to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 2: TRANSFER TO MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK

After enjoying an early morning breakfast, we start our second day of this tour with a long hour journey drive to the Murchison Falls National Park located in north-western Uganda. This journey will approximately take 6 hours with an en-route stopover at Nakitoma to visit the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, home to the white Rhinos. The drive passes through the famous Luwero triangle where lots of people lost their lives as the liberation of the country against the dictatorial rule of the 1970s and early 1980s. You will have a lunch break in Masindi town and proceed to the park to visit the magnificent top of the falls. You will have dinner and overnight at the lodge of your booking.

DAY 3: MURCHISION FALLS NATIONAL PARK GAME DRIVE AND BOAT CRUISE

Wake up and have an early breakfast and then embark on a full day game viewing activity in Murchison National Park beginning with a morning game drive where you enjoying sights of the mighty elephants, buffalo, giraffe, antelope, lion, leopard, etc… We may encounter one of Murchison’s few cheetahs.
In the afternoon, you will take a boat trip to the base of the 43m high falls. This is also a good opportunity to spot a few of Murchison’s 460 bird species including the shoebill stork and goliath heron. You will also see one of Africa’s densest hippo and crocodile populations. Dinner and overnight as above.

DAY 4: TRANSFER TO KIBALE NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast in the morning, we start yet another Long hour journey which takes 9-hour drive on this 13 Days Rwanda-Uganda Wildlife Tour heading to Kibale National Park, navigating through the lush countryside and magical scenery of the western rift valley and the Rwenzori Mountains before arriving in Fort Portal and later Kibale Forest National Park in the evening for dinner and overnight at your lodge.

DAY 5: CHIMPANZEE TREKKING IN KIBALE NATIONAL PARK

After early morning breakfast, you will be transferred to the Chimpanzee tracking information office at 8 am for a briefing by the park warden and ranger guides, and after, you will be led into the rain forest in search for chimpanzees. These enchanting primates are very mobile and viewing them is unpredictable but a forest walk is an enriching activity and takes about 2 to 5 hours. This forest is home to a large number of chimpanzees and other primates including Lhoestes, grey-cheeked mangabeys, Red-colobus, Red-tailed, birds, and butterflies. You will get back at the lodge in time for lunch and if time allows go for a Bigodi swamp walk for yet more primates and bird watching with an optional opportunity to meet and interact with the local communities living here.

DAY 6: TRANSFER TO QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

After an early breakfast, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, a park known to be with the highest bio-diversity ratings of any game park in the worlds with habitats to include; lakes, forest, savannah grassland as well as wetlands. Passing through the Ishasha sector we gaze at the rarely seen tree-climbing lions and exercise our game searching and if you get lucky and spot these tree-climbing lions, proceed to the northern part of the park in time for dinner and an overnight stay.

DAY 7: QUEEN ELIZABETH GAME DRIVE AND BOAT RIDE IN KAZINGA CHANNEL RIVER

Breakfast in the morning, set off early (about 6.30am) for a morning game drive, an awesome experience to spot the animals in their natural habitats. Expect to see the famous Big Five; Elephant, Buffalos, Lions, Bushbucks, Kobs, Giant forest hog, Hyenas leopards, antelopes, and Waterbucks as well as birds. You will return for breakfast and relax till lunch. In the afternoon you will take a launch cruise along the amazing Kazinga channel to see at close range the water animals to include Hippos, Buffalos, and Crocodiles. There is also a variety of bird species on the water banks especially the famous Shoebill, pelican, and Jacana. Dinner and overnight will be at your lodge.

DAY 8: CHIMPS TREKKING – TRANSFER TO BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK

This morning, you will leave at 08.00am for chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura gorge. Expect to see various primates most especially Chimpanzee of different species, Black and white Colobus monkeys and other animals like antelopes, hyenas, Lion and many others in the middle of savannah grassland. Lunch at the hotel, drive through the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth called Ishasha and head to Kisoro. The meal plan for this day is breakfast, lunch, and dinner at your preferred accommodation.

DAY 9: GORILLA TREKKING DAY

After enjoying the early morning breakfast, depart with your packed lunch and proceed to the park headquarters for briefing and take to the forest for gorilla trekking! Gorilla Trekking can take between 1-5 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas and the location of the assigned gorilla family. The time remaining after visiting the gorillas can either be spent relaxing and remembering the trek or hiking in the foothills and visiting local communities. Dinner and overnight as you booked for.

DAY 10: BATWA EXPERIENCE AND CROSS TO RWANDA

Have breakfast in the morning and then take a drive to visit the Batwa people. The Batwa people are one of the last groups of short-statured people also known as ‘pygmy’ people, and until Bwindi Rainforest was gazetted as a National Park they lived a hunter-gather lifestyle in the forest. They are now some of the poorest people in the world with a high infant mortality rate and low life expectancy. You will get to know how they live their life. You will visit the coffee makers, local markets and later cross to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. Dinner and overnight will be at your lodge of booking.

DAY 11: GORILLA TREKKING IN VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK-RWANDA

Have an early breakfast very early, then set off to the Park headquarters at Kinigi to join other tourists for a briefing on Gorilla tracking, after the briefing, embark on the drive to the starting point of hiking with your allocated guides to lead you into the forest in search for the respective Mountain Gorilla families.

The trekking may last for 2 – 4 hours and upon encountering the gorillas you will be allowed to stay with them for a maximum of one hour. You will return to the hotel for lunch and in the afternoon be taken to visit the Iby’iwacu cultural village to learn about the Rwanda’s culture. You will spend the night at the lodge of your previous day.

DAY 12: TRANSFER TO GISENYI AT LAKE KIVU

After enjoying breakfast, meet your driver together with your luggage and transfer to Gisenyi on the way to Kivu you will be enjoy the scenic view compiling of the plantation, terraced hills and greenery forest and firms covering wetlands and swamps until you reach to the beautiful lake Kive in Gisenyi town bordering with Democratic republic of Congo. Upon arrival proceed to check-in at your hotel of choice. Have lunch at the hotel or you may walk and have lunch at the surrounding restaurants at the shore of the lake. After lunch be expecting to be picked up by the boats and head out to experience boat cruise at lake Kivu and the beautiful islands and hot springs which local people believe as traditional treatment to cure different skin disease according to their witnesses.

DAY 13: TRANFER TO KIGALI – DEPARTURE

After having relaxed breakfast, depending on your scheduled flight plan check out and drive to experience tea plantation and visit tea processing company before your transfer back to Kigali to catch up with your flight.
