This 5 Days Congo Gorillas & Nyiragongo Hike Tour is a combined tour coupled with mountain gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo hiking to the top of the Volcano. This tour starts from Kigali driving with your guide into Gisenyi crossing into Congo via Goma border of Congo-Rwanda visiting the Virunga National Park where you can stay for the gorilla trekking activity.
Day 1: Transfer From Kigali to Lake Kivu/Gisenyi
This tour itinerary presumes that you are already in Kigali either at your hotel or place of residence where you will be picked by our tour guide for a journey leading us to Gisenyi (Rubavu) – Lake Kivu. Provided time allows us, you will have a boat cruise to the Nyamirundi coffee island to learn how the coffee is grown, harvested, processed and consumed in the cup. Dinner and overnight at Paradise Malahide/Kivu Serena Hotel.
Day 2: Transfer to Nyiragongo for 1st Day of Volcano Climbing
You will have breakfast in the morning, then start a scenic drive as we transfer to Nyiragongo National Park in Congo for the volcano climbing briefing. The journey of hiking into Crater of Nyiragongo Mountain will start and it only takes 4-6 hours as we climb to the lava summit. The hike leads us to trail through the tropical rainforest. Upon reaching the summit, we will camp there for the whole night at the tented camps. Hence it is advisable to carry your camping gear for this itinerary.
Day 3: Descend and Transfer to Goma Village
After an early morning breakfast at the summit tented camp, you will descend to the bottom and the driver will take you to Goma where you can have nature walks in Goma village and overnight spent from Mikeno Lodge.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Virunga National Park
You will have breakfast early in the morning as usual and then get transferred to the headquarters of Virunga national park for briefing before the real Congo gorilla trekking experience. You will then start the trails as you trek to find the Gorillas following the guidance of an armed guide. The time to spend trekking will depend on the movement and the location of the trekked gorilla family. In the evening after the trek, you can opt to go for a short community walk and village visit to the nearby communities for a true African experience, later on, return to the lodge for Dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Transfer to Kigali
You have morning breakfast then transfer to Kigali town for a brief City tour and then our driver will drop you off at the Kigali International Airport for flight back home.

What You Carry For this Tour
- Water: Trekking through the forest in search for gorillas can be very tiresome and, therefore it is advisable to park a few water filtration tablets before the hiking begins.
- Boots: You will need good waterproof comfortable shoes.
- Energy Giving Snacks: You can carry a light snack to give you some energy during the walk in the forest
- Gloves: You will need Gardening gloves to protect yourself from the thorny plants.
- Camera: Carry a good camera (no flash) to capture this lifetime experience
